Shower yourself in white powder and ward off evil! A strange festival: Toyohashi Oni Matsuri

It is said that the birth-myth of Japan was integrated into a Shinto ritual song and dance for the festival, with a plot where the god of military arts (Tengu) teaches the malevolent god (Red Ogre) a lesson. The festival is held on February 10th and 11th, and the teasing between the Red Ogre and Tengu on the 11th is the special highlight. The Red Ogre gets beaten by the Tengu and runs from the precincts out into the town, scattering tankiri candy and white powder. They say that if you eat this candy and get showered by the white powder, you won't get sick during the summer.
